I'm a staff member, I am off-campus and I've forgotten my Murdoch Password, what do I do?

If you are unable to attend in person the IT Service Desk counter (Level 2, North Wing, Library, Murdoch Campus), eg. "you are overseas", or, "out of Perth for an extended period", you will need to arrange for a new Murdoch Password.

To obtain a new Murdoch Password, you will need to contact the MAIS MAIS Authorised Agent for your organisational unit (eg. School or Office). The agent (usually a School Dean, a Director, or a Manager), will authorise your request for a new Murdoch Password to be generated and printed on secure stationery, on your behalf.

Contact the IT Service Desk (email: itservicedesk@murdoch.edu.au phone: +61 8 9360 2000)  if you do not know who your MAIS Authorised Agent is.

Your agent will need to complete a Murdoch Password Request Form (PDF) with your Murdoch Username, your name, and your position title. They are also required to provide their own details and signature.

Your authorised agent may use the Murdoch Password Request Form to authorise another person, a delegate, to collect the envelope containing the Murdoch Password, on your behalf, from the IT Service Desk. The delegated person will need to provide their Murdoch Username, name and signature.

The IT Service Desk staff will:

  1. Ask your delegate, to provide a completed Murdoch Password Request Form
  2. Ask your delegate, to display their Staff Identification Card (with an identifiable photograph)
  3. Check for the name of the nominated agent on the listing of MAIS Authorised Agents MAIS Authorised Agents
  4. Access the Murdoch Password Change Workflow system
  5. Enter your details and initiate an email that creates a call in the IT Service Desk System for your request
  6. Sign the Murdoch Password Change Request Form acknowledging that they have sighted the appropriate proof of identity, with an identifiable photograph, for your authorised delegate, and initiated a IT Service Desk System call for a new Murdoch Password to be generated for you on secure stationery
  7. Scan the completed Murdoch Password Request Form and attach to the Service Desk call
  8. Generate and print on secure stationery a new Murdoch Password
  9. Hand your delegate an envelope with your new Murdoch Password printed inside and your name on the outside

Your authorised agent, or delegate will:

  1. Enclose the secure stationery envelope in a a registered letter and send it to you, or
  2. Phone you, and open the secure stationery envelope when asked to do so by you

The authorising agent, or delegate, must be assured of your identity (eg. by knowing you, or by you quoting your Staff Number to them), before they reveal your new Murdoch Password to you over the phone.

When told your new Murdoch Password, use the Murdoch Change Password (staff) system and change it as soon as possible to a value known only to yourself.

NOTE: Due to the insecure nature of email, Murdoch University staff will NOT send a Murdoch Password to you as part of an email message.
