I'm a MAIS Other, I am off-campus and I've forgotten my Murdoch Password, what do I do?
If you are off-campus and have forgotten your Murdoch Password and are unable to attend in person the IT Service Desk counter (Level 2, North Wing, Library, Murdoch Campus), (eg. overseas, or, out of Perth for an extended period), you will need to arrange for a new Murdoch Password.
To obtain a new Murdoch Password, contact your MAIS Authorised Agent who will authorise a request for a new Murdoch Password to be generated and printed on secure stationery, on your behalf.
Please contact the IT Service Desk (email: itservicedesk@murdoch.edu.au phone: +61 8 9360 2000) if you do not know who your MAIS Authorised Agent is.
The authorised agent will need to complete a Murdoch Password Request Form (PDF) with your Murdoch Username, your name, and your position title. They are also required to provide their own details and signature.
Your authorised agent may use the Murdoch Password Request Form to authorise another person, their delegate, to collect the envelope containing the Murdoch Password, on your behalf, from the IT Service Desk counter. The delegate will need to provide their Murdoch Username, name and signature.
The IT Service Desk staff will:
- Ask the delegate, to provide a completed Murdoch Password Request Form
- Ask the delegate, to display their University Identification Card (with an identifiable photograph)
- Check for the agent's name on the listing of MAIS Authorised Agents
- Access the Murdoch Password Change (Others) system
- Generate and print on secure stationery a new Murdoch Password (which will have not been seen by the IT Service Desk staff)
- Hand the delegate, an envelope with your name on the outside and your new Murdoch Password printed inside
- Sign the Murdoch Password Request Form acknowledging that they have sighted the appropriate proof of identity, with an identifiable photograph, for the authorised agent, or delegate, generated a new Murdoch Password on secure stationery and given the envelope to the agent or delegate
- Retain the Murdoch Password Request Form as a record that you have received your new Murdoch Password
Your authorised agent, or delegate will:
- Enclose the secure stationery envelope in a a registered letter and send it to you, or
- Phone you, and open the secure stationery envelope when asked to do so by you
The authorising agent, or delegate, must be assured of your identity (eg. by knowing you, or by you quoting your Murdoch Person Number to them), before they reveal your new Murdoch Password to you over the phone.
When told your new Murdoch Password, use the Murdoch Change Password (others) system and change the Password as soon as possible to a value known only to yourself.
Note: Due to the insecure nature of email, Murdoch University staff will NOT send a Murdoch Password to you as part of an email message.
