STAR Peer Tutoring Programme
You're invited to change your future by adding value to yourself and your degree through volunteering with one of the most dynamic, fun and rewarding programmes at Murdoch University, the STAR programme.
Who: Awesome Murdoch University students that are either full-time, part-time, internal or external from any discipline who want to gain life-skills, boost their CV and have a lot of fun along the way!
What: The STAR Peer Tutoring Programme engages Murdoch University students in volunteering as peer tutors in school classes across a wide range of learning areas in schools. Peer tutors act as positive role models and academic support to students in the school via one-to-one assistance, group work, revision, experiments, cultural activities and more.
Why: Peer tutors provide academic support to students and act as a positive role model in the classroom. Add value to their personal skills and their degree by enhancing, demonstrating and developing key transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, organisation, leadership and problem solving all of which are highly sought after qualities and invaluable when applying for a job or even just aiding in narrowing your career choices. In addition to this you also earn credit towards your Community & Career Skills Developmental Transcript (accredited programme 2011).
When: Peer tutors volunteer for 2-3 hours each week in a school for one semester or more after two easy training sessions.
Where: Secondary and primary schools across the metropolitan area, Pilbara Region and Great Southern Region. Schools are either close to your home or your Murdoch University campus and your travelling costs are reimbursed! STAR peer tutors can also host school student visits on campus or perform a short demonstration.
Time Anaemic: Other peer tutor roles include joining the STARtrek Science Show team, hosting a quiz for high school students, ecoSTAR and other activities including the University Open Day, Travelling Science Shows and more - check the events link for more details!
